  • A Trip to the Neolithic Period

    Published 04/06/24

The Year One children recently enjoyed a trip back in time to the Neolithic Period. They visited the archaeological site of Choiroikitia and saw the replica cylindrical houses, that they had been learning about in their Topic lessons, which early settlers in Cyprus had built. The children climbed the hill of so many steps to see the ruins and enjoyed the view from above. They also learnt about the tools that were made out of stone and how they hunted for their food. There was also time to use up any energy left with some play and a delicious lunch. When they returned to school the children built their own cylindrical houses and campfires in our own forest garden!

  • Last day in Italy

    Published 03/06/24

This time we visited the ancient ruins of Herculaneum which was excavated 10 years before Pompeii in 1738. We also learnt that Vesuvius as we see it today is only 20% of the original size and the eruption was as powerful as eight atomic bombs with temperatures reaching 250 degrees celsius. Unfortunately we didn't manage to reach the crater of Vesuvius due to torrential rain but the beauty of the Bay of Naples from 800 metres above sea level was a sight to behold. The afternoon was spent in the splendour of Galleria Umberto with its glass dome, built in 1887. Well done to Elinor and Alexandra for winning the night's quiz! We woke up to a beautiful sunrise, ready for our journey home. Arrivederci Italy, you've been spectacular!
