Psychology
The Psychology course in the Sixth form aims to enable students to develop:
- essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of Psychology and how they relate to each other
- a deep appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of scientific methods
- competence and confidence in a variety of practical, mathematical and problem-solving skills
- their interest in and enthusiasm for Psychology, including developing an interest in further study and careers associated with Psychology.
What will I learn?
EDEXCEL Psychology International AS and A level XPS01/YPS01
The course is up to date, engaging and relevant using a broad base of both famous, traditional and contemporary studies. Students will develop research methods and carry out practical work by using various techniques in appropriate topics. They will learn to apply psychological theory to everyday behaviour and to appreciate the variety of people’s characteristics. In addition, they will learn how to analyse aspects of their own behaviour in different circumstances.
How is the course assessed?
At the end of Year 12 students sit two written papers, one of 1 hour 30 minutes and the other of 2 hours for the IAS qualification. At the end of Year 13 students sit a further 2 papers, one of 1 hour 30 minutes and the other of 2 hour, to complete the IAL qualification.
What are the GCSE requirements for this course?
Students wishing to study Psychology in the Sixth form need the following:

IGCSE Mathematics with a grade 6

IGCSE English with a grade 6
-
IGCSE in any science with at least grade 6 – grade 7-9 is preferable.
Note that students entering with a grade 6 may find the course challenging
